What's the difference between wet leather and dry leather?

I. Basic concepts of wet leather and dry leather

Wet leather and dry leather are two processes widely used in the production of leather products. Wet leather requires a lot of water in the production process, so the production efficiency is relatively low, but it can make softer, more elastic and more comfortable leather. Dry leather does not require water. Chemicals will be used to react with leather during processing. The finished leather is uniform in thickness, with a smooth surface and strong wear resistance, but relatively poor elasticity.

II. Production process of wet leather

The production process of wet leather is roughly divided into the following steps: raw material processing, tanning, post-tanning treatment, finishing and shaping. During the processing stage of raw materials, animal leather will be scraped, degreased and treated. Subsequently, through soaking, feeding, woven and other processes, the leather is soaked in chemical agents to remove protein and fat from the leather and make the leather soft. During the tanning stage, the leather will be soaked in different tanning agents, making the leather fiber stable and producing a certain degree of softness and elasticity. In tanning treatment, various coatings, paints and other substances will be used to increase the color and texture of leather. Finally, in the finishing and shaping stage, automatic equipment will be used to cut, decorate and mold the leather to produce various leather products.

III. Production process of dry leather

Dry leather is a method that does not require water in the production process. Compared with wet leather, dry leather reacts with chemicals during the production process to complete the leather production process. In the production process, it is necessary to select raw materials, clean, dye, dry, remove hair and other steps. During the drying stage, the leather in production can be dried through mechanical or heat treatment schemes. Usually, the products processed by dry leather are relatively stiff, with lines on the surface, and have a certain strength and wear resistance.

 IV. Conclusion

In terms of production and manufacturing process, dry leather is faster and more efficient than wet leather. At the same time, dry leather can also customize various patterns and patterns according to the producer's wishes, so that the produced leather has a better texture and use. In contrast, wet leather production process products have better softness and elasticity and higher comfort, but the production speed is slower and the production cost is relatively high. Both have its own advantages and disadvantages.
